What fits

What a 20 yard actually holds

  • Whole-house cleanout
  • Kitchen remodel
  • Roof tear-off up to ~25 squares
  • Estate cleanout
  • Moving purge

Roofers use this size for a tear-off up to about 25 squares of shingles on a typical single-story ranch. It is also the size for a full kitchen gut or a whole-house cleanout before movers show up, appliances, furniture and flooring debris all included. If your project touches more than one room of a house, this is usually the size that gets it done in one trip.

Roofing and remodel debris is fine, but a short list is off limits in any size: motor oil, transmission oil and antifreeze, petroleum-contaminated soil, lead paint chips, asbestos, among others. Full list is on our FAQ page, or just call and ask, it takes a minute.

Most calls for this size come from homeowners mid-move or mid-remodel, plus roofing contractors who already know the 25-square math. If your job checks more than one of those boxes at once, cleanout and remodel debris together, this is usually still the right size before you need to step up.

Delivery

How a 20 yard gets placed

Same-day and next-day delivery is common for the 20 yard across Southeast Michigan. We cover Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw counties, and the trucks run out of our Dearborn yard every day. Close-in cities like Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Allen Park are the fast zone. Like every size we carry, it has a hinged rear door for walk-in loading and no lid, so tarp the load if you are worried about rain soaking drywall or debris blowing out. Tell us where to place it and the driver will set boards under the rails.

Sizing up or down

When to pick a different size

Doing a single-room job or a garage cleanout? The 15 yard is $50 cheaper and still plenty of room. Running a construction site or gutting a whole house at once? Go up to the 30 yard, the price gap is smaller than paying for a second haul.

FAQs

20 yard questions, answered

Why is the 20 yard your most-booked size?

It fits the most common jobs we see: whole-house cleanouts, kitchen remodels and roof tear-offs up to about 25 squares. At $395 flat with 3 tons included, it covers more project than a 15 yard without stepping up to 30-yard construction pricing, which is why most callers land here.

How many squares of shingles fit in a 20 yard?

About 25 squares (a square is 100 square feet of roofing) on a typical single-story home. Steeper roofs or a second layer of shingles add weight fast, so mention that detail when you book so we can flag if you might run over the 3-ton allowance before the crew starts tearing off.

Is a 20 yard enough for a kitchen remodel?

For most kitchens, yes. Cabinets, countertops, flooring and drywall from a standard kitchen fit inside the 3-ton allowance. Large kitchens with tile floors or stone counters run heavier, so call and we will size it with you before you book instead of guessing and coming up short.

What happens if I go over the 3 tons included?

You are billed $75 per ton over, straight off the certified scale ticket at the disposal facility. Most single-project jobs stay under 3 tons. Heavy material like tile, plaster or shingles is usually what pushes a load over that line, so flag it early if your job involves a lot of it.
