What a 15 yard actually holds
- Garage or basement cleanout
- Bathroom remodel
- Carpet and flooring removal
- Small deck teardown
- Yard debris from one weekend
Picture a two-car garage cleared down to the studs, or a full bathroom gut with the tub and vanity pulled out. That is roughly what fills a 15 yard. It is also the size most people book for a one-weekend push: old furniture, yard debris and whatever has been piling up in the corner. If you can carry it to the curb in an afternoon, this is usually the right size.
A few things stay out no matter the size dumpster: chemical products, herbicides and pesticides, solvents, flammable liquids and gasoline, propane tanks, motor oil, transmission oil and antifreeze, and a short list beyond that. See the full list on our FAQ page, or call if you are not sure about something specific.
Most calls we get for this size are homeowners handling a single project: a garage that turned into storage, a rental property being turned over between tenants, or a basement getting cleared before a finish job starts. If that sounds like your situation, the 15 yard is almost always the right call.
How a 15 yard gets placed
We deliver across Southeast Michigan from our Dearborn yard. Orders close in, like Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Allen Park, get a same-day or next-day window if you call before noon. The driver sets boards under the rails before rolling it off your driveway, and the rear door swings open so you can walk items in instead of lifting them over the side. There is no lid, so keep a tarp handy if rain or lightweight debris is a concern.
On your own driveway, no permit is needed, and the 15 yard is small enough that placement is rarely an issue even on a narrow lot. If you need it on the street instead, mention that when you call, some cities want a right-of-way permit for street placement.
When the 15 yard is not the right call
If your project is mostly heavy material, concrete, brick, dirt or asphalt, skip the 15 yard. That kind of debris fills the 2-ton allowance long before it fills the box, so it is not the cheap way to haul it. Use our concrete and heavy debris container instead.
Clearing more than one room, tearing off a roof, or gutting a kitchen? Size up to the 20 yard. It is our most-booked size for exactly that reason.
15 yard questions, answered
Is a 15 yard dumpster big enough for a garage cleanout?
Yes, for a single or two-car garage cleared down to bare walls. It holds about 4 to 5 pickup truck loads and 2 tons of debris. If you are also pulling drywall or flooring in the same weekend, mention that when you call, it can push you toward the 20 yard.
Will a 15 yard fit in a normal driveway?
Yes. At about 16 feet long and 7.5 feet wide (approx.), it fits most Dearborn-area driveways with room to walk around it and still park a car if needed. Tell us where you want it placed and we set boards under the rails to protect concrete or asphalt before the driver rolls it off.
What is included in the $345 price?
Delivery, pickup, 2 tons of disposal and one rental day are all in the $345. Keep it 2 days for $365 or 3 days for $375, both booked upfront with no phone call needed. The only add-on is weight over 2 tons, billed at $75 per ton straight off the scale ticket at the disposal facility.
Can I use a 15 yard for a roof tear-off?
For a shed or a one-car garage roof, maybe. For a full house, shingles are heavy and hit the 2-ton limit fast, even on a small footprint. Most home tear-offs use our 20 yard instead, which comes with 3 tons of disposal and more room for the rest of the debris.
